Re: The Accountability Matrix
It is very easy to loose track of just which of your personnel is accountable for both major areas of responsibility and specific project and task items. The changing nature of projects and objectives lend further complexity and difficulty in maintaining up to date information.
Additionally, limits of authority (such as spending amounts) can also be shown on the matrix.
The power of the Accountability Matrix is further enhanced by the visual nature of the chart and the ease of finding and identifying accountabilities by item as well as by employee.
For small firms, a single chart can be used while larger companies may want to create their charts on a manager/direct reports basis.
An example of the matrix might look like this.

You can use the simple “X” to show an accountability or you might develop your own codes such as the P and the S for Primary and Secondary where more than one person is involved in parts of the accountability item.
